Do you need specialist golf insurance?
Golf can be an expensive hobby. You can end up out of pocket if you go away without golf holiday insurance:
- Golf is really popular in Ireland. In fact, Golf Ireland says we have “over 370 Golf Clubs”. Are you one of the many Irish people spending money on a well-earned holiday on the course? Golf insurance means you can go away knowing you’re protected.
- “Golf equipment is expensive – it’s hard to dispute otherwise,” says Golf Monthly. They estimate: “if you want to play with a full bag of the very latest clubs from one of golf’s premium brands, you might not get that much change from £2,500” (almost €3000¹). Protecting your equipment when you take it away is essential.
- Golfing injuries are more common than you think. Golf Safety reports “up to 40,000 people a year seek medical attention for injuries caused by golf ball impact”. If you’re injured and can’t play on, get protection for lost green fees.
Travel insurance including golf cover should be top of your golf holiday to-do list. Call us for free or get a quote online. Read our Policy Wording for full details of cover and any exclusions.
What are the benefits?
We know any holiday takes planning, time and money. But if something goes wrong on a golf holiday, you’ll face certain costs you won’t get elsewhere. That’s why it’s important to add golf travel insurance to your policy.
From buying an expensive round of drinks because you’ve got a hole-in-one, to being unable to use your green fees because you’re injured. Get protection for unexpected issues on your trip.
What does the golf travel insurance add-on cover?
Buy golf trip insurance and get protection for your equipment and more. Travel knowing you're covered on your golf trip. It's that simple. Always read our Policy Wording for full details and any exclusions:
Loss of golf equipment
Standard travel insurance can only cover your belongings up to a certain amount. If your clubs are damaged on the course or your kit bag is stolen, you could be out of pocket. Get up to €1,500 of protection for theft, damage and accidental loss. Including your own and hired clubs, golf shoes, bags and non-motorised trolleys declared on your policy.
Hire of golf equipment
Don’t let your equipment being lost, stolen or damaged stop play. Get up to €20 per day to hire replacement clubs and kit while you’re away. Up to a maximum of €200 for your trip. Meaning you can still hit the course and get on with your holiday.
Loss of green fees
Seriously ill or injured and can’t continue as planned? Get up to €75 per day, up to a maximum of €300 in total, for unused green fees.
Hole-in-one cover
Hit a hole-in-one and face a big bar bill? It’s tradition to buy a round of drinks, but it can get expensive. One golfer recently faced a £470 bill (more than €550²). Get €150 towards the cost with golf holiday insurance³.
What’s not covered by the golf travel insurance add-on?
There are some costs that won’t be covered by golf travel insurance. Some of these include:
- Claims below the excess stated on your policy
- If you haven’t reported stolen belongings within 24 hours to the police, or if you don’t get a police report
- If your belongings are lost, damaged or delayed in transit and you don’t follow the steps in our Policy Wording
- Claims for lost green fees when you’ve not confirmed you’re too ill or injured to play golf. You need to contact our emergency medical assistance team to do this and may be asked for a medical certificate
- Hole-in-one cover if you’re not a member of a recognised golf club, detailed in the Policy Wording. Or the golf course at which the hole-in-one is scored is not affiliated with the Golfing Union of the local country
- If you do not have your scorecard signed by your playing partner, who must be a member of a National Golfing Union. Or if it’s not countersigned by the secretary of the club at which the hole-in-one has been scored
For full details of all exclusions, read our Policy Wording.
What else does JustCover’s golf travel insurance cover?
Golf travel insurance is an optional extra added to our standard policies. Meaning you’ll not only get protection for golf-specific issues when you have both. You’ll also be protected for medical emergencies, cancellation and more. Read our Policy Wording for full terms and conditions.

Will an EHIC cover you for golfing in Europe?
Your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) only covers some state healthcare, giving you access at the same price as locals. This won’t always be free and won’t include all costs, such as medical repatriation. It also only applies to certain countries. It’s important to take both golf travel insurance and your EHIC in case you need emergency medical assistance.
An EHIC does not help with costs linked to other things going wrong, such as needing to cancel unexpectedly. Nor will it cover issues that golf holiday insurance will. If you want protection for lost green fees, your equipment and hole-in-one costs, you need golf trip insurance.
How much does golf trip insurance cost?
When buying a policy with golf travel insurance added on, there are some factors that will impact the price. These include:
- Your age and any pre-existing medical conditions: If you’re an older traveller or have a medical condition, you’re more likely to claim. Your quote will reflect this, but we’ll always tailor it to you. So if your condition is well controlled, we’ll take this into account.
- Where you’re going and how long for: If you’re going away for a long time, you’re more likely to need to claim. Plus, some countries have expensive healthcare systems, pushing up the price of treatment. These factors will impact your quote.
- Any additional cover: As well as golf trip insurance, we offer a whole range of other additional cover. So, if you need to add on any other cover, this will impact your quote.
How can you reduce the price of your policy?
If you’re looking for cheaper golf travel insurance, you can try:
- Going away for a shorter trip: Cover for a short break should be less than a big holiday.
- Going away somewhere where healthcare is cheaper: Pick somewhere where emergency medical treatment will cost less.
- Booking everyone on the same policy: We offer group, couples and family policies. These could save you time and money.
Buying an annual multi-trip policy: If you’re going away more than once this year, take a look at our annual policies. You can add golf travel insurance to them, potentially saving you money. Get your quote to find out.
