How many family members will family travel insurance cover?

Does family travel insurance cover cancellation due to illness?
Yes, we do offer cancellation cover if illness disrupts your travel plans. Please check your policy wording carefully to make sure cancellation is covered.
We always recommend taking out travel insurance as soon as you book. Your cover only applies if your trip is cancelled after your policy starts. Cancellation must be necessary and unavoidable. We can’t cover changes of heart or if you simply no longer wish to travel.
Does family travel insurance cover adult children?
Our family travel insurance covers two adults and up to eight children. If your adult children are travelling with you, they may need separate cover. Here are your options:
- Family travel insurance. Covers one or two adults aged 18 or over, and between one and eight children under 18.
- Group travel insurance. Ideal for adult children, grandparents or larger groups. Covers up to 10 adults under one policy.
- Individual policies. If they’re travelling separately, adult children may need their own insurance.

Is annual multi-trip or single trip travel insurance better for your family holiday?
It depends on how often you’re planning to travel this year. If you’re jetting off more than once, an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy is the best choice. Heading abroad just once? A single trip policy is all you need.
Annual family travel insurance covers named adults even when travelling without the kids – or each other. So if you’re taking multiple solo trips, it’s still a great option.
Do you still need family travel insurance with a EHIC card?
Yes, you do. Everyone needs their own EHIC card, even if you’re travelling together. But the Department for Foreign Affairs recommends getting travel insurance even with an EHIC. That’s because the EHIC doesn’t cover:
- The cost of replacing personal items if they’re lost or stolen.
- Destinations outside Europe.
- Any private healthcare you need.
- The cost of flying you home from abroad, if medically necessary.
- Mountain rescue services if you’re injured in a ski accident.
- Some treatment and prescriptions.
- Personal expenses related to illness or injury. Things like delaying your flights or extra nights in a hotel to recuperate.
Are there any age limits on family travel insurance policies?
Our family travel insurance covers people of all ages. The adults named on the policy can be 18, 80 or older. It also covers up to eight children, up to the age of 18. The only age limit across any of our policies is for winter sports, which has an upper age limit of 65.
Do children need travel insurance?
Absolutely. Travel insurance isn’t just for adults. Kids need protection too! Families make claims for children all the time. Getting cover keeps the youngest travellers safe from unexpected mishaps.
- Lost belongings – Toys, tablets and teddies can go missing. If luggage gets lost, your essentials stay covered.
